Casa Bata, County Arad: A beautiful hotel with spa in the Mureș Valley in County Arad owned by the de Styrcea family. Perfectly sited for those following in the footsteps of Patrick Leigh Fermor who stayed in many of the great houses in the area during his epic walk across Europe.
The Count Mikeș estate at Zabola, County Covașna: A wonderful and timeless estate NE of Brașov that has been beautifully restored and welcomes visitors.
The Count Kalnoky estate at Micloșoara, County Covașna: A marvellous collection of traditional guesthouses in Transylvania. Count Tibor Kalnoky is heavily involved in the restoration of Transylvania’s heritage and helps to conserve its unspoilt nature. He also looks after the Prince of Wales’ properties in Romania.
ADEPT: A foundation doing amazing work in seeking to preserve the unique natural landscape and rural working practices in Transylvania whilst enabling local farmers and landowners to follow sustainable methods and grow their income.
The Mihai Eminescu Trust: The pioneering British conservation charity in Transylvania, The Mihai Eminescu Trust is dedicated to the conservation and regeneration of villages and communes in Transylvania and the Maramureș.
Pro Patrimonio: The “National Trust” for Romania. Established by the late and much missed Prince Șerban Cantacuzino and led by Romania’s foremost conservation architect, Șerban Sturdza, it seeks to rescue and preserve Romania’s historic buildings ranging from churches to significant houses. It’s a daunting task and they need much help.
Prodid: The pre-eminent conservation architectural practice in Romania, led by Șerban Sturdza, and based in Bucharest. They were the architects for the project to restore the Manor House at Văleni.

Șulea Architects: Mihai and Cristina Șulea played an important role in the restoration of the manor house at Văleni and have now set up their own practice in Bucharest. Their website includes a profile of Văleni Manor.
Foundation Conservation CARPATHIA: A bold and exciting project to conserve and restore the natural Carpathian ecosystem by acquiring, protecting and administrating forests and natural grasslands. To date they have acquired some 21,000 hectares in the Carpathian Mountains.
Taylor Tripp: UK based landscape architects who designed the landscape Master Plan for Văleni Manor and have an ongoing role in advising on its implementation.
